Mr. Barry Silver. Chairman
Fine Arts Commission
c/o Mayor Evlyn Wilcox's Office
City of San Bernardino

San Bernardino. CA 92401
Dear Barry:
As a followup to our presentation at your meeting of September 13.
1985. the Board of Trustees of the San Bernardino Public Library
hereby requests support from the City of San Bernardin6 Fine Arts
Commission for an exhibit marking the opening of the a~ galleries
in the new Norman F. Feldheym Central Library.
Beginning the first week in November. 1965. and running approximately
f
forty-five days. the Board anticipates an exhibit of the watercolors
, ,
of Robert E.-and ;Jane Wood in the upstairs gallery. Twenty-four
original paintings will be included in the display. In the lobby
gallery ten sculptures by Donald Davis ~ll be arranged for public
viewing. It is believed these three artists Will dq mu~h to establish
the quality of art that will be featured in the galieri~s for the
long term. '
The Library Board has already budgeted sufficient fund~ to cover the
fees of the exhibitors. However, the cost of packaging a,n!l shipping
the sculpture is beyond our capabiltiy. The Fine Arts C~isslon is
requested to sponsor these costs of $1.000.
~
The Library Board in swmnary will cover the cost of the ga:J.lery con-
sultant. labeling the artists' works. postage and printing for invita-
tions and publicity. security for the exhibit. and insurance. The
Office of the Mayor will co-sponsor the exhibit for purposes of pub-
licizing the event and helping with an openinll night gala. The Fine
Arts Commission will co-sponsor the event by paying $1,000 toward the
shipping and freight of the sculpture.
All of the works on display will be available for sale to the general
public. Of any sales that result. twenty percent of the sales price
will rebate to the gallery consultants. An additional twenty percent.
however. wilt return to the San Bernardino Public Library with the
intent of raising the fees required for similar exhibits in the future.
Obviously it is our hope the galleries will become self-supporting.
