Mayor Evlyn Wilcox
and Members of the Common Council
City of San Bernardino
300 North RD" Street
San Bernardino, Ca. 92418
Re: Million Dollar Mile Proposal
Dear Mayor Wilcox and
.~mbers of the Common Council:
Pursuant to the direction of the Common Council and as indicated in our
letter of June 28, 1985, the Executive Committee of the San Bernardino
Economic Development Council has reviewed the proposal for City sponsor-
ship of the event known as "Million Dollar Mile".
Councilman Quiel has met with the City Engineering Department and reported
that South Arrowhead Avenue would be suitable for this event. The cost of
improving South Arrowhead Avenue to accommodate this event would be within
the budget previously approved by the City for the South Arrowhead Avenue
improvements.
We have concluded this project is feasible and recommend City approval,
subject to certain contractual limitations as follows:
1. The EDC would act as liaison for the City in connection with this
event.
2. The EDC would negotiate a contract with 7-Up Bottling Company for
sponsorship of this event. The contract would include an expenditure
of'City funds not to exceed $10,000, specifically allocated to the
cost of a pre-race dinner, promotional stationery and press kits, all
subject to City approval.
3. The EDC would work with the City staff and representatives of 7-Up
Bottling Company to determine the actual cost of providing the use
of Arrowhead Avenue, along with safety, security, fire service, etc.,
and place agreed limits on City services and commitments, all which
would be included in the contract.
4. The final contract, prior to its execution, would be presented to
the Mayor and Common Council for approval.
