Synopsis of Previous Council action:

Recommended motion:
That the traffic safety improvements Items #1 through #5, for the 40th
Street corridor, be approved'and authorize the amount of $11,500 to be
transferred from Account 42-510-410 (Im~rovements - Major Streets) for
this expenditure.

A neighborhood meeting, requested by the 40th Street Homeowners'
Association, lias conducted by the City Council Office on Monday night
(2-11-85) at the Grace Baptist Church, located at 1333 - 39th Street. The
main purpose of the meeting was to discuss the traffic safety concerns on
the 40th Street corridor which starts at Valencia Avenue in ~n easterly
direction, through Mountain Avenue and 39th Street, ending at Del Rosa
Avenue.
A total of 39 traffic accidents have occurred along this corridor
in the past three years, Statistics show that annual traffic accidents
were doubled in 1983 and tripled in 1984 by comparison with the 1982 base
year, Approximately 15 accidents were reported in the vicinity between
Conejo Avenue and Sonora Street as 40th Street transitioning to ~ountain
Avenue through two consecutive sharr curves, Two of these accidents
were fatal.
Improvements recommended by the Engineering Division are listed
below:
