ANIMAL SERVICES
MEMORANDUM
TO: Animal Control Commissioners
FROM: Kris Watson, Animal Services Director
SUBJECT: Update to Commission on Animal Services
DATE: May 11, 2022
Staffing
We have selected an internal candidate for the Lead Animal Control Officer position. One of our current
Animal Control Officers has notified us of his intent to retire at the end of June. We have extended a job
offer to replace one of the vacancies and will need to open another recruitment for the second vacancy.
Our kennel and customer service teams are fully staffed at the moment.
Facility Update
Our new morgue was delivered and installed last week. The old morgue was dismantled and hauled
away on Friday. Public Works crews will be leveling out the grass areas behind the morgue in the next
few weeks. Once that is completed, we will finish the perimeter fencing in that area. This will help
secure the animal housing areas in the event of break-ins.
We are finalizing the purchase of the industrial dishwasher and hope to have that installed before the
beginning of the Fiscal Year.
Neighborhood Association Meetings
The Department will be attending the Muscupiabe Neighborhood Association meeting on Thursday,
May 12, 2022 from 6:30-8:OOPM. Please let your neighborhood association know that we would like to
attend any meetings to discuss the Department and Services we offer to the community.
