ANIMAL SERVICES
MEMORANDUM
TO: Animal Control Commissioners
FROM: Kris Watson, Animal Services Director
SUBJECT: Update to Commission on Animal Services
DATE: February 4, 2022
Grand Re -Opening
The shelter's grand re -opening event on December 11th was a wonderful success. 21 animals were
adopted from the department over the course of the day and all adoption fees were covered by a
generous donation from the Chairman of the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.
The department offered tours of the facility as well as pictures with our special visitor, Santa Claus!
$1.1 Million Dollar San Manuel Grant
The Department of Animal Services secured a grant of $1.1 Million Dollars from the San Manuel Band
of Mission Indians. The monies will be used to purchase a mobile veterinary unit and to hire/onboard a
veterinarian and RVT to help the department care for the animals at the shelter and to offer additional
services, such as spay/neuter and low-cost vaccinations, to our resident's pets.
The Department is working with Public Works to post an RFP (Request for Proposal) for the vehicle by
the end of this month. Once we identify the most responsive bidder, we will have a better idea on when
we may expect the vehicle to be delivered to the shelter.
You can help animal services by becoming a foster caretaker!
• Wait for a couple of hours to see if mom returns
• If mom doesn't come back, call us at (909) 384-1304
• We will give you the supplies, medical care and support to help
you care for the kittens
Once they reach 8 weeks of age, they are ready to be
spayed/neutered and placed up for adoption - we can help
with that too!
Fostering is fun and can save lives!
ayudarte a cuidar gatitos
Cuando alcancen las 8 semanas de edad, estan listos para
ser esterilizados/castrados y para la adopcion - tambien
podemos ayudar con eso.
Fomentado gatitos es divertido y puedes salvar vidas!
Thank you for volunteering your time to foster underage kittens! Because
of you, these kittens will have a safe space to grow up outside of the
shelter and return when they are ready for adoption.
The attached care kit contains the following items:
• Powdered Kitten Formula
• Bottle Kits
• Potty Pads
• Wipes
• Litter and Litter Boxes
