Dear Mayor & Council Members:
My name is Creiselda Terpoorten, a community organizer in the Inland Empire. I am
imploring you all to make an intelligent choice by supporting the agenda item:. Consider
Appeal of MC1351 Crime Free MultiHousing Ordinance (All Wards) – Council Member
Reynoso p. 3874.
The Crime Free Multi Housing Ordinance is a de facto policy that has no validity and
continues to put families living in the City of San Bernardino at risk of homelessness or
jeopardizing their stability in San Bernardino. Of the 162,000 Californians currently houseless,
70% have a criminal conviction. Stable housing contributes to lower recidivism and
homelessness and is imperative to the success of formerly incarcerated people and their
families. Comparatively, system-impacted people are also carceral-system victims and are, on
average, six times more likely to become incarcerated. Equally important, a criminal record,
no-low credit score, and lack of rental history make obtaining stable housing a daunting
challenge.
Despite these undeniable challenges, thousands of San Bernardino residents are committed to
transforming their lives.. Therefore, please remove another form of racial covenant policy that
segregates housing for all.
Thank you,
Creiselda Terpoorten
