Now the real work begins as we try to mix our different ideas together for the benefit for all of us. Thank you Mr. Field’s for putting together a very attractive and informative Newsletter that tells us what is going on in the various departments within the city. I even send it out to others that might not be on your email list. I also thank you for the new way of having the agenda and packets to the agenda displayed for all of us to have backup information. Thank you. And thanks to our City Clerk’s Office for putting me, a retired disable publisher on the list to receive the notice that the agenda is ready. I really appreciate that.
There are two agenda items, which I wish to comments on briefly, number 8 and 16.
I did a quick review of the Aspen Institute City Learning Action Lab Playbook and I hope
it is an inclusive plan that includes all citizens.
I am in support of you accepting the Grant from the Department of Justice and for you to
make it a priority to hire citizens from San Bernardino as police officers.
I am full convinced that we cannot have an effective Community Policing Program until
we have most of the police living in the community that they serve. According to the last
years report on sworn police officers living in the city was 17 or 7percent. The
Department of Justice call the grant a Community Oriented Policing Service Grant; If the
police lived in the community they would not have to get an orientation of their
community but could be taught how to provide good police service to their neighbors. I
also want to say keep moving forward with bringing in a group that represents all races
and females on the force.
Thank you for your time, service and working together as a council and staff.
