Public Comments for City Council Meeting
I heard about the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony that will kick off the extension of
State/ University Street in the 6th Ward. Thank you Council Member Betty Dean
Anderson for the vision and the current Council member Kimberly Calvin and City
Manager Mr. Rob Field for completing her dream.
You should also approve the increase in pay for the council members.
Mr. Penman will tell you he has more experience in city government, which is
true, but he has been disruptive in using that 26 years of experience and he has
not changed. At your last council meeting on 9/21, he was up to his old tricks by
asking you to get the city attorney to petition the court to open up an old case
that Helen Tran gave a deposition of her investigation. This is Penman’s tactics
of dragging the council into fights, which will pit you against each other, the city
attorney and city manager. I am glad you did not bite at the baited hook. He went
on to say the public has a right to know.
Mr. Penman since you believe so much in the public right to know, can you tell us
about the five women who filed “Sexual Harassment Complaints” against you
and cost the city $50,000 to investigate. This was reported in the SUN news
article back in November 1994.
The women said in the article Penman gave them neck rubs, can you tell the
public what really happened? It was also reported in that Sun News paper article
that you allegedly told one of the women ”my libido rise and falls based on how
much time I spend with you each day” end of quote. Can you tell the public what
you did to make these five women make these allegations and complaints
against you? The public wants to know and have a right to know before they
vote.
Then Mayor Tom Minor said he believe the outside investigators report and
council member Valerie Pope-Ludlam said she believed the women employees.
This is just one of many things that the public has a right to know about why he
was recalled from office.
The council has come a long way’s in trying to work together, let us not turn the
clock back to Sexual Harassment Complaints and a divide and conquer Mayor.
Thank You, Hardy Brown 6th Ward resident.
