Mr. Mayor, members of the council, city staff, and community members, My name is Jaym Cervem and I am currently the Health Access Coordinator with the Pomona Economic Opportunity Center. Our organization is focused on protecting the rights of day laborers such as the workers who look for work every day outside the Home Depot on Highland. On November 2nd, 2021, on the comer of Highland and Lincoln about 20-25 day laborers and sheet vendors, were targeted by a City of San Bernardino operation, many were ticketed, some had their work vehicles impounded, at least one person was arrested. When the workers went to retrieve the vehicles from the tow yard, they were informed that the vehicles had been placed under a 30-day hold. Having their vehicle impounded and having to pay the fines associated with these tickets and impoundments places a very high burden on workers who earn a living on a day-to-day basis. Council, by allowing your police department to act with such wanton disregard for the law you are exposing your city and the taxpayers to unnecessary liability. We strongly encourage you to order your police chief to lift the 30-day hold immediately and release the vehicles, and to generally halt the attacks on bard workers who are seeking only a fair day's work for a fair day's pay. Thank you for your time. Best regards, Jayra Cervera Health Access Caorth t Pamaoa Economic O ornmitr Center
