I see we are in for more trying time as COVID 19 has mutated into another way to attack us humans. I do not envy you as elected officials trying to accommodate the many different views on whether people should be vaccinated or not be vaccinated. With my illness, when I went for my booster they gave me a full third dose for protection. This is also a political year in the nation, state and city and people are already jockeying to get our attention. I want you and the public to know I will not be supporting the current mayor or the former City Attorney. They have been an embarrassment and costly public servants to our city. When I reviewed the agenda of to night’s close session, John Valdivia is still costing us money from his personal behavior. And when it comes to Jim Penman he has also cost us millions, especially when you add the old Charter amendment of Section186 that guaranteed the Police and Firefighters pay raises without approval from the council. Both of these individuals are very divisive in the way they conduct themselves with those on the council, staff and public. I am suggesting that you strongly consider approving item 5 on the agenda to permit the approval of contracts by minutes in addition to by resolution. I did send you my thoughts by email on agenda item 7 for compensation of the mayor’s position. Please do not make the pay so low that a person with education or a family will not seek to run for office based on what the charter requires of the position. I was going to object to item 11 to purchase of a $450,000 Chevrolet Truck from Penske Chevrolet Dealer in Cerritos until I read the back up information and the specialty requirements of the vehicle. Then I read down to agenda item 17 and you are doing business locally with Fairview Ford to purchase vehicles in the police Department. I agree with Council Member Alexander that all employees should have Ethics Training especially elected officials and mangers as soon as possible. Le me say welcome and congratulations to the new Human Resource Director for the city. Last but not least, I agree with your Proclamation on having Dr. Margaret Hill Day in the city of San Bernardino. I served on the School Board and can agree with every thing you have documented and a lot more. Thank you for your time and STAY SAFE. Hardy Brown 6th Ward Resident
