Please read aloud because of my speaking disability of ALS. Thank
you.
I wish to speak on agenda item 6, the Electoral Redistricting Draft
Maps. After reviewing the information provided on this subject I had a
discussion with my neighbor Mr. Rikke Van Johnson, who sits on the
committee.
And we concluded that, the map in your packet on page 69 is the best
map to take back to the public for questions and concerns. We thought
the consultant's methodology of using the Neighborhood Associations
boundaries was good and sound. Of course that does not mean others
might not concur with our conclusions after they study the boundaries.
Part of my rational comes from the years of living in Ward 6 on the
westside, sharing the community with our neighbors in Ward one and
three.
Another topic. Several months back I brought to your attention a police abuse compliant by Quinn Bass I received as Chair of the NAACP Legal Redress Committee. It was under internal investigation by the police department staff. Has that investigation been completed? If so what was the out come, so I can advise Mr. Bass and the Executive Board of the NAACP Branch of what our next steps might be. There are many other topics I could mention at this time, such as the police chief position, Violence Intervention Program but I will wait until they appear on the agenda. And even though we do not agree on some issues, I want to “Thank You” for serving our community and STAY SAFE. Hardy Brown, 6th Ward Resident.
