I hope that you will all read this, and consider it my public comments regarding the closed sessions and open session on the agenda for today, June 16. Fireworks signs - the fireworks issue continues to plague our city, and you have a history of not addressing the issue. Again, since this is not on the agenda for today's meeting, you need to talk about it anyway, speak up in one voice, and take action. Specifically, we need to see signs at various points entering the city, such as those used by Highland and Redlands, stating the illegality of fireworks, and the fines that will be assessed. It doesn't look like a complex issue to find those digital signs, set them up, and have an impact. Strength in numbers - you showed yesterday that you can unite to take action when necessary. Please continue this unity in looking at the big picture of the city of San Bernardino, and not looking for individual glory or benefit. Mayor and city manager - please stand by the decisions you made yesterday regarding illegal activities of the mayor, please follow through with investigation and prosecution. In your closed session today regarding the city manager, I hope you will act with the same resolve you displayed yesterday in dealing with the mayor. One further comment - reluctantly, I watched the "state of the city" show last night. What a joke. It was "all about me" John Valdivia, Amazon, the airport, and other entities that have nothing to do with the reality of life for residents of San Bernardino. There was no mention of residents, small businesses, locally owned businesses, our homes, our parks, our neighborhoods, our concerns, our quality of life, and our reality. If the airport is such an asset for San Bernardino, wouldn't you be improving the area surrounding the airport? For example, clearing away the trash, junk yards, blighted properties would be a start. Creating an atmosphere that would attract developers of businesses that are beneficial near airports, such as restaurants, would be nice. Why does all of this continue to be ignored? Building more and bigger warehouses, while ignoring the quality of life for residents, is not the answer. Thank you for your time. Joanne Bates 7th ward
