Dear City of San Bernardino, What are you doing to counteract the environmental impact that more warehouses will have on the people who live there? Increasing logistic centers will only increase the already alarming smog, traffic, and deteriorate the health of those who live there. Although warehouses promise employment, these jobs are ones which are aimed at keeping residents in a place of socioeconomic in-mobility. These jobs do not benefit the residents, but rather they only benefit those who directly reap the financial gains; the cities who produce deals with the developers, and the distributors themselves. The development of these warehouses have increased automobile and air traffic, in turn causing a worsening of air quality. Look outside your window and you will see the dense layer of smog that surrounds San Bernardino and surrounding cities. This is disgusting. When we think of the beautiful mountain ranges, we are instead reminded of the worsening environmental impact which warehouses contribute to. Did you know that children living in the Inland Empire are twice as likely to suffer from asthma and respiratory symptoms? This is due to the horrendous air quality trapped by the beautiful Sierra Nevadas. After a year-long respiratory crisis (COVID-19), I hope the deciding members acknowledge the importance of social health and well being. When making a decision, please step aside from the financial gain, which could be brought by uplifting the community and consider the long-term effects of warehouses and how they directly affect the health and social status of your residents. The entire point of any leadership is to benefit the people in the best way they can. Warehouses are only looking out for their own gain and exploitation. Please do not succumb to the greed of this capitalistic society and think about your own health as well as the health of your neighbors. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwicx- ymgO3vAhVFnp4KHYzPBVQQFjAFegQIAxAD&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sbsun.com%2F2014%2F08%2F13%2Fmother- and-son-living-with-dirty-air-and-asthma-guest-commentary%2F&usg=AOvVaw1S6a-PmaPjHbYqyy-jeQLA Sincerely, Ana Arreola
