San Bernardino City Council,
I'm writing today to show my support in favor of the warehouse moratorium. These facilities
are a source of ongoing toxic pollution and health disparities in our communities; we must
take a pause and evaluate our path forward. San Bernardino County was named the worse
county in the nation for smog and was followed by Riverside and Los Angeles counties
(source: American Lung Association 2020 Survey). A contributing factor is the constant
stream of Diesel trucks coming from these warehouses.
While I understand that warehouses bring employment, the majority of these jobs are deeply
hurtful to the workers and the community. These facilities are known for their inadequate pay,
exploitation of workers, and cause harm to the environment due to their massive carbon
footprint.
In recent years, the Inland Empire has seen massive growth; if we want to sustain this
trajectory, we must strategically invest in our future. San Bernadino needs sustainable
companies that value clean jobs and a healthy community for all. Building San Bernardino's
economic future around warehouse expansion will be detrimental to the health of those who
live and work in the Inland Empire.
Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter.
Warmly,
N. Jimenez
