To the San Bernardino City Council:
As a born-and-raised San Bernardino resident, I ask that you act in the interests of our community and vote in favor
of the warehouse moratorium. San Bernardino and the Inland Empire as a whole have become hubs of pollution
because of these warehouses and the countless trailer trucks that pass through our neighborhoods. Residents are
paying the price of this and are consistently exposed to some of the most toxic air in the country (American Lung
Association, 2019), leading to the increased likelihood of developing respiratory problems and reproductive health
issues (EPA).
I am sure you are aware of these health concerns. Yet, the city continues to allow warehouses to settle in our
community under the guise of providing more jobs for us. While these warehouses do provide jobs for residents,
warehouse jobs should not be our only option. Access to financial means must not come at the expense of our
physical health. San Bernardino residents should not be forced to live in unsafe environmental conditions, nor forced
into a life of strenuous physical labor simply because that is all that has been made available to us.
Do not let monetary greed overcome the interests of our community. Invest in developments that will help revive
our city of San Bernardino and provide genuine paths to economic freedom for our residents that do not involve
warehouse work. Explore developments that will not harm our environment or community members any further. We
deserve better, and allowing for more warehouse development here is not what we need. Our health is in your hands.
I hope that you take all of the above into consideration and vote in favor of the warehouse moratorium.
Thank you for your time,
Jennifer Jimenez
