RE: AGENDA ITEM# 3,4,6,7
It has been an honor and privilege to serve the 6th Ward for the past 5 years as Chairman and
Vice -Chairman of the Planning Commission. During my tenure, we have addressed many
planning issues specifically related to the Westside of San Bernardino that affect our residents,
children, and seniors citizens.
Moving forward it is critical to ensure that the residents from the Westside of San Bernardino are
adequately represented in the decision -making process. It appears that 80 percent of the new
appointments being voted on tonight do not live in the 6th Ward.
Why are residents that live in the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th wards being appointed to seats that have
been historically reserved for residents that live in the 6th Ward? Although this practice may be
legally feasible due to the new charter passage, it also appears to be grossly unethical to appoint
non -Ward 6 residents to preside over 6th ward issues.
I urge the council to look into this matter to determine what is the best route to take in order to
achieve equitable representation for each jurisdiction ward.
