Hardy Brown a 60 years resident on the westside of San Bernardino. I want to thank Mayor ProTem Ibarra and Councilmember Alexander for responding to my Black Voice News Reporter request for information. Also thanks to staff members Mr. Field and Mr. Huntley for assisting in that request. While I’m at it, I want to thank you for the lively discussion at your Special Council Meeting last week. It became clear to me that our mayor has received some money from someone to support his effort for reelection and it support the “Image or Allegation of if you “Pay then you can Play” in San Bernardino. This issue must be address by the council and adopt an Ordinance of Financial Contribution Limits to Political Campaigns by individuals and Political Action Committees. I also thank you for adjourning that special meeting after the mayor became so upset because he could not have his way and left the meeting. Good for you council. There are many issues before you to night but you must reject the developer that the Mayor is supporting for the “Carousel Mall Project”. And what ever you do, please get them to sign a “Community Benefit Agreement” before you obligate the city to any thing. We must break our long history of “Outsider” planning, building and establishing their business inside our city, while they are living high on the Hog in other communities, at the expense of African Americans and Mexican Americans citizens in this city. I have not forgotten our Police Staffing problem. We must open up the Chief and assistant Chief positions and fills them with permanent people. It has been two years with a staff of “acting”, which is not a way to run the department. I will remind you it has been 115 years and no Black chief and only one Latino in that position and neither as Assistant Chief, in a city that they are the majority of the population. If you decide to include two non-residents on the downtown advisory planning committee they should not be allowed voting privilege. The Rental Assistant money has stirred up some hurt feelings in our community by the thought of having another United Way even being considered to administer the $6 Million Dollar program. According to your “Closed Session Agenda” the mayor is costing the city a lot of time and money wit several lawsuits against him. Know that the citizens are still against paying any money for his legal cost. Thank you Hardy Brown, 6th Ward Resident.
