My name is Emily Vasquez and I am deeply concerned that city officials will not support our
community demands in regard to what happens to The Carousal Mall.
We as residents of this community are tired of approved projects that only benefit those in
office or the developers who don't even live in these cities like SB. It is extremely
disappointing when I know there is so much potential for community projects to really be
about the real community here in the 909. Stop and think, do you know specifically any
individuals, families, or groups that live here in this city that are really struggling? Think
about all those people and children that do not have any privileges that you have & how your
part of being in office is also to genuinely engage with us. Have you even done this part or
enough of it? Can you go into any street in SB and pick a residence, knock on a door and
whoever answers it will know who you are & will know that they can trust you? If the answer
is no then you need to step it up. Think about how immensely these streets will be impacted of
a careless choice you could make that is based on profit over residents.
Out of all of your experience in your life time, what creative and unique and beneficial things
are you bringing to the table to spark empowerment, true community, revolutionary change,
and & justice? The answer is US. Listen to our ideas because we er visionaries if this
generation, accept truths about yourself & where you can do better & follow through with
genuine engagement.
Lastly, go above and beyond to make sure that whatever happens next is a true reflection of
what our community ABSOLUTELY NEEDS rather than a manipulating corporate developer
convincing you that their product is the savior. And to be honest, we don't need any outside
sources to tell us what "direction" we should have in order to succeed at something, what we
need is for every city official and planning commission employee to be on board with locating
and hiring local organizers, artists, photographers, musicians, dancers, contractors, drywallers,
construction workers, landscapers, hvac specialists, foodies, engineers, stay at home grown
ups, street vendors, farm workers, birth workers of color, and all the other amazing people that
carry lineages and talents that can truly contribute to making The Carousal Mall a place of
gathering again. Hire them and pay them what they deserve because we can do it all together
by collaborating with each other.
Tlazocamati for your time.
