Howdy. My name is Jonny Miller and I am a community activist in San Bernardino. I am contacting you regarding the Carousel Mall development. I am concerned about the process of community engagement behind this development. I believe the community deserves a seat at the table to navigate the priorities for the downtown development. Issues like lack of affordable housing, housing for low income and homeless residents, sustainability, and good jobs must be included in the project. We need housing for All not high priced apartments that gentrify the neighborhood and force out my friends and neighbors, people of color who are already discriminated against in the housing market, and the working poor. I ask that you show your support for community benefits to address the issues I mentioned above. The city's public money must go into solving the crisis of unemployment, housing, air pollution, and investment into resources the community has needed for decades. City Councilmembers, what are you doing to guarantee good jobs, permanently affordable housing, and environmental sustainability at the Carousel Mall site? I demand that a community land trust is incorporated into any plan that is proposed to ensure we can house residents AND cooperative businesses to incorporate sustainability in the long-term. Together we are stronger so let's plan a better future for San Bernardino. -- “Rise free from care before the dawn and seek new adventures.Let noon find you at other lakes,And night find you everywhere at home...Grow wild according to thy nature.” ― Henry David Thoreau, Walden
