Good evening Mayor and City Council members.I am Abigail Medina, a City of San Bernardino resident ofmore than 20 years.This is a great opportunity for both city council membersand the community to see how we can improve our city.Thank you for that opportunity for all of us to be part ofthat conversation.As we move forward,there are a few things that should be implemented in anyaction taken.- Community Benefits Agreements should be added toany signed contract.Community Benefits Agreements will ensure that what ispromised verbally is also promised in written form, suchas- Environmental impact studies, eliminating harmfulhealth and environmental implications.- Hiring residents by working with local union ensure,health benefits, limiting temporary agencies, etc.In addition to the Community Benefits Agreement,it is the city’s responsibility to simultaneously work withresidents in providing affordable housing,access to public transportation,which must include bicycle lanes,and of course, increase mom and pop shopswith at least 80% of businesses with the city.
