Greetings,
I live downtown, 2 blocks from Carousel Mall. Building something new to replace Carousel
Mall is a huge opportunity to improve our lives, but I am concerned that neither proposal
reflects what I think our priorities should be.
Our priorities need to be 1.) truly affordable housing, 2.) serving the people who already live
here instead of pushing them out, and 3.) making sure new business opportunities are taken by
Black and Latinx people who already live here, not chains or non-locals.
Looking at the Renaissance logo where people are holding a "DTSB" sign--where did they
even find that many white people to pretend they live in downtown San Bernardino? That
image doesn't reflect our community. BIPOC should be centered in the image AND substance
of the new plan.
Live/work lofts are soulless and yuppified and not even trendy anymore.
Thanks for considering my comments.
Best,
Minky Malone
