I read the newspaper descriptions of the two development plans for the
Central City Mall.
I was disappointed in their plans.
What will be the driving economic force for the downtown area? I don't see
much there in the proposed plans. How does the ultimate $800,000 cost
estimate fit into it?
If I may suggest the city counsel look at the redevelopment of
Chattanooga, Tennessee. They were facing a similar situation as San
Bernardino. They went bold and decided to go heavy with redevelopment
infrastructure as well, specifically internet access speed.
Here's and idea that would save on the $10,000,000 demolition costs of the
mall, and re-purpose it to become an economic driver. The two large retail
stores at the mall could be transformed into "Cloud" storage facilities. (a
fast growing industry). The need for "cloud" storage is a long range growth
need. Supplied with fast internet, the off shoot benefits are tremendous for
other businesses to be created and grow. Just think of the internet business
that have been established and multiply by it by 1000. Think of the
businesses that require or would benefit from a speedier internet. (Sweden,
Korea have 1T home internet speed, we have 100m-500m speed)
With the 'hot speed' internet site at the mall, the surrounding area would
explode with new foot traffic and commerce.
You can go online and see the blue print for Chattanooga's success.
We can do the same.
