Re: 424 Court Street, San Bernardino
Dear Mr. Wilson:
It is my understanding that you are the owner or contact person for the above-referenced building in San
Bernardino. The City of San Bernardino’s Fine Arts Commission is currently working on a project to
revitalize the downtown area. Our plan is to place art (photographs and paintings, etc.) and poetry in the
empty windows of some of the vacant buildings in that area. It is the Fine Arts Commission’s hope that
this will attract passers-by to stop and look and tell others about the art in the windows, which will
increase the foot traffic in the area. The windows in this building are especially well-suited for this kind
of display.
We will be asking local artists and art students from local schools and colleges to submit art and poetry
for the project. Hopefuly, there will be enough submissions to rotate the displays periodically. Obviously,
the work will need to be on the inside of the windows; thus our volunteers would need access in order to
clean the windows and install the art work. We would, of course, need the written permission of the
owner in order to do this.
This past spring and summer, we worked with the owner of the empty building at 468 West 5th Street
(next door to the Subway Restaurant) and installed an exhibit of photographs and poetry by two
professors from Cal State, San Bernardino. The exhibit remained in the windows for about two months,
and elicited many positive comments. This is the model that we expect to follow on this new project.
We would like very much to work with you on this project. If you are interested, or need additional
information, please contact me at 909-862-3668 or by email at erdogar@roadrunner.com.
Sincerely,
Dorothy Garcia, Ed.D, Chair
City of San Bernardino Fine Arts Commission
