COMMISSIONER/STAFF ANNOUNCEMENTS Chairperson Garcia introduced new commissioner representing the First Ward, Ruben Chavez. Chairperson Garcia handed out flyer for “A Visual Journey” event presented by the San Bernardino Art Association and suggested that the commissioners stop by and take a look at the art. City Clerk Hanna announced that an Art Walk for high school and college students would be held in the lobbies of City Hall, Mexican Consulate, and Guatemala Consulate on October 15, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Art Walk event was presented to Mark Persico, Director of Community Development and City Clerk Hanna by a recent graduate from Arroyo High School. Chairperson Garcia announced that Richardson Prep Hi Middle School summer workshop would be performing at the Third Thursday Food Fest on July 16, 2015. 2 Fine Arts Commission – July 14, 2015 Minutes Page Two APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Commissioner Segura to approve the Minutes from June 6, 2015 and June 8, 2015. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Babcock. Motion passed. NEW BUSINESS Election of Chair and Vice-Chair for 2015-26 A motion was made by Commissioner Kaplan to continue this item until the whole Fine Arts Commission body was present. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Chavez. Motion passed. July Arts Calendar The July Arts Calendar was provided with the agenda backup. Inland Empire Museum of Art City Clerk Hanna stated that since Inland Empire Museum of Art was closing their office in Pomona, her office assistant would be sending them a letter inviting them to consider the City of San Bernardino as their future home. Budget for 2015-16 Chairperson Garcia reported that the FAC Budget for FY 2015/2016 was $200,000. This amount was in addition to the current FY 2014/2015 carry over balance. OLD BUSINESS Review of Grants Process Commissioner Kaplan recommended that the grant process begin earlier in the year and that more grant workshops be provided to the applicants. Chairperson Garcia recommended revision of the grant application. Multicultural Festival Report Commissioner Taylor stated that she would be putting a meeting together sometime in August with the potential partners. She said that some of the partners were from California State University San Bernardino, San Bernardino Valley College, and San Bernardino City schools. 3 Fine Arts Commission – July 14, 2015 Minutes Page Three Status of Micro Grant A motion was made by Commissioner Kaplan to ask the Council Members to utilize their micro grant funds and submit their specific plan for use of their micro grant funds by June 30, 2016. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Babcock. Motion passed. Chairperson Garcia suggested that a memo to be sent by City Clerk Hanna to each Council Member asking them to provide information regarding their micro grant proposals and advising them of the FY 2016 deadline. Art Acquisition Policy Chairperson Garcia stated that this item was to be revisited by the Legislative Review Committee meeting per Steven Graham, Deputy City Attorney.
