HomeMy WebLinkAboutLetter to Black Culture Foundation re Rosa Parks statue August 28, 2016 President Black Culture Foundation P.O. Box 7288 San Bernardino, CA 92411-0288 Dear Sir/Madam: In the summer of 2014, the Fine Arts Commission of the City of San Bernardino recommended, and the City Council later approved, a grant of $2,500.00 to your organization to go toward the completion of the Rosa Parks statue, by local sculptor Patrick Jewett. It is our understanding that this statue will be placed in the patio or inside the Rosa Parks Memorial Building on ā€œEā€ Street. Two years have gone by, and the statue is still not ready to install. Do you have information about the status of this project? Has your organization had any kind of fund drive or grant application to assist in providing the funds needed for completion? The Fine Arts Commission is interested in having information about the projected timeline. Could you please provide us with that information and an accounting of how the $2,500.00 was spent? The Fine Arts Commission is extremely interested in this project as an addition to public art in the City of San Bernardino and as a way to honor an individual who contributed greatly to the civil rights of many persons. Thank you for your assistance. Dr. Dorothy Garcia, Chairperson Fine Arts Commission City of San B ernardino ____________________________________ By: Diane G. Grant, Senior Office Assistant
