Re: “Our Town” Grant
To Whom It May Concern:
As Chairman of the Fine Arts Commission of the City of San Bernardino, I am pleased to write a
letter of support of KVCR’s proposal for the Our Town grant. Our local Public Radio and TV
station here in San Bernardino currently has a program KVCR ARTS, which gives brief
information twice a week about some of the art activities and events going on in the community.
The proposal which they are submitting to NEA will expand greatly upon the current offering.
Many of us in San Bernardino feel that the arts can be a big part of the renaissance of this city,
which has a high level of poverty and is soon to exit from bankruptcy. There are events, classes
and on-going programs in several genres of the arts; however, getting the word out is often
difficult. What KVCR proposes are segments on both radio and TV highlighting the various arts
and artists within the City.
The Fine Arts Commission, composed of citizen appointees by the Mayor and City Council, was
recently revitalized after three years of inactivity. We have been able to network with several
arts organizations and individual artists, encouraging them through small grants and arts
information. We welcome KVCR’s initiative in finding ways to publicize and showcase how
important the arts are to this city.
Sincerely,
Dorothy Garcia, Ed.D
