Dear Ms. Jackson:
On July 6th, the San Bernardino City Council approved the recommendation of the Fine Arts
Commission funding the project for which you submitted an application. The funds will be
mailed to you in approximately four to six weeks. If you have any questions, please contact the
City Clerk’s office at 909-384-5102.
Would you please send a schedule of classes/workshops and/or performances to the Fine Arts
Commission, in care of the City Clerk’s Office, so that members of the Commission can make a
visit to your project. In any publicity about your project/performance, please credit the Fine Arts
Commission of the City of San Bernardino.
The Fine Arts Commission members encourage you to apply for Fine Arts funding the next time
they are available, under your own organization African Soul. There was some confusion about
the relationship between your organization, the Valley Star organization and the school itself.
You are also encouraged to establish partnerships with local businesses, which was one of the
criteria set forth in the application, and to ask for help in submitting the financial aspects of the
application to avoid some of the problems that occurred in this one.
The Commission requests that all musical instruments purchased through the FAC funds remain
with the school if at any time the African Soul program no longer services this school.
Thank you for applying for these funds; your time and effort in doing so benefits members of the
San Bernardino public and enhances the arts offerings in our city.
