My name is Cheryl Valencia, a San Bernardino resident, homeowner, and taxpayer for 20 years. It is my understanding that you council members feel that there is nothing you can legally do to remove Mayor John Valdivia. John Valdivia does not care about this city and will not step down due to his egomania and power lust. He is a dangerous city liability. How much are you going to allow this city to spend because of his behavior? How much have we paid to the former City Manager in a settlement? How much was spent already with backpay and penalties to the City Clerk and City Attorney? How much in attorney fees have been paid for these 3 legal matters? How much more money has been spent already and how much more will we spend on the additional legal matters from all 3 of these claimants? How much have we spent already on the investigation into John Valdivia's behavior with his staff employees? How much more will be spent on additional investigations? How much have we spent already and how much more will be spend on legal representation for the 5 claims made by 5 of his 6 former employees? How much will we spend to settle those claims? I haven't even mentioned the costs associated with the "pay for play" claims, current and future. Just think of all we could have accomplished with this money: police response time reduction, code enforcement restoration, park and street improvements. Where does it end? This city cannot afford any of these expenses - I cannot afford more taxes to pay for his actions. Businesses and homeowners alike are fleeing at an alarming rate when we need the tax revenues. The city will not attract new businesses with the reputation we now have due to John Valdivia's actions. If you feel you have no legal recourse to remove John Valdivia from office, then ALL 7 of you must stand together to block his power grabs, remove all possible resources from him, remove his ability to act for the city and limit his exposure to city employees, officers, contractors, vendors and anyone else his actions could cause legal claims. John Valdivia is a huge liability and a danger to this city. Only the 7 of you can save the city and its citizens from his destruction. I urge you to please help us. Thank you, Cheryl Valencia
