Honorable Mayor and members of The City Council. Thank you for the opportunity to
provide you with my thoughts on agenda item #19 with you. My name is Ryan and I am the
owner of a successful Jimmy John's franchise here in San Bernardino.
As a current business owner and someone who would like to open and operate a retail
cannabis dispensary in the City, I wanted to offer my support and ask for your support to
increase the number of retail permits to be allocated.
Since the passage of Prop 64, the cannabis industry has grown continuously year over year
providing more than just products. Legal cannabis business has invested in the local
community through redevelopment, charity support and important tax revenue to cities across
California.
Speaking on a personal level, our group plans to occupy and renovate a space that has been
vacant for over 10 years. We will invest hundreds of thousands dollars in the space and the
entire center. This investment will not only help our facility but it will benefit all of the other
restaurants, and business in our specific center. In addition to the investment in the property,
we plan to continue our support of local charities with a portion of all profits going directly
back into the community.
I am not alone and by increasing the number of permits allowed in the City, there is potential
of millions of dollars to be reinvested in San Bernardino.
I also ask that you only keep the current buffer zones from schools, youth centers and daycare
centers. There is no need to impose an additional buffer in between retail cannabis locations.
This additional buffer will only hamper the potential redevelopment in the City.
I am a proud San Bernardino business owner and I look forward to growing my business
portfolio here.
Thank you again for the opportunity to be heard.
