To the empty businesses, boarded up buildings, homeless population and trash scattering the streets it’s become an embarrassment to own a business in San Bernardino. Now with the street taco vendors occupying the corner of my business, where I pay rent, business taxes, health permits, fire permits, payroll taxes, insurance, they are crowding the sidewalks with EZ ups, tables and chairs, making a hugh eyesore for my business, other businesses and the city. Not to mention the trash, beer bottles (yes they do sell beer) that gets left behind, or them using our dumpsters for their trash, a service which I pay for, the grease stains on the sidewalks and streets, the dead grass from people setting up equipment on and people standing on, all while not paying a dime to the city and using property that doesn’t belong to them. Not to mention the health hazards they’re are operating without, no running water, no toilets, no refrigeration, no ample space to keep raw and cooked food separated, unloading of food from the trunk of their cars. If the health department was to walk into my restaurant and I didn’t have any of these items I would be shut down! But when call the health department to report them they tell you it’s basically out of their hands because the vendors operate outside of their operating hours. You call the city, and it’s basically just wasting your time on the phone call. No one is taking action against these vendors who are in violation of every standard there is to open a restaurant in the city of San Bernardino. Not to mention they are violating the CA law of what a street is, which states that street vending is limited to hotdogs and uncut fruit. The city management, mayor and city council needs to step up and come up with plan and guidelines for what is considered a street vendor and enforce these regulations that already exist. Your tax paying businesses are disgusted with the way this situation has been handled. Let’s keep what integrity this city has left and clean up the streets and help flourish the paying businesses that are left in the city. I can bet none of these vendors have any type of permits, license that is required of them. Venisa Castro Two Guys Pasta and Pizza
