Comments Hi, my name is and I live in the city of San Bernardino. With our city
currently considering extending and increasing our local sales tax measure I am calling to urge
our city mayor, council member Theoodre Sanchez, Sandra Ibarra, Juan Figueroa, Fred
Shorret, Henry Nickel, Besine Richard and Jim Mulvihill to make sure you prioritize our
struggling families and students in your decisions and discussions. 1) I am asking to include in
the measure language that earmarks 50% of it for additional support of our community's
priorities. If you are expecting community support, it most be in the measure that 10% will go
to parks and rises, 20% to violence prevention programs and 20% to the Violence Intervention
Program. This language is key for us voters to ensure that the funds are used as promised. 2)
Our city manager needs to immediately extend the evictions moratorium set to have expired
on May 3 tat 2020, or modify the language if it is in accordance with the statewide eviction
moratorium. While additionally putting a rent relief program in place for the most heavily
impacted and vulnerable families in our community. Due to the vast impact COVID-19 and
the statewide response and it's declaration as a national and international emergency,
allocating funds from CDBG to provide relief for impacted individuals and local businesses,
and by extension property owners, in San Bernardino are integral to the core functions of the
Community Block Development Grant. Meeting 2 of the 3 national objectives in benefntting
low and moderate income persons, as well as meeting an urgent need. By making sure our
most impacted do not lose their homes and small businesses we are making an investment in
our local economy. To push our community members out into eviction would be counter
intuitive to the goals and stipulations for use of CDBG funding.
(https://www.hed.ca.gov/grants-funding/active-f mding/cdbg.shtml) This moment has
highlighted many of the broken promises of the last local measure tax and our community will
not fall for it once again. We call on the city mayor, city manager, and city council members
to make a wrong, right this time and truly invest in our communities' priorities. I am a voter
and along with my friends and family we are paying close attention to these key community
issues. Thank you.
