Subject:Putting an end to Systemic Racism

My name is Jody Isenberg. I live in the Fourth Ward, I am the Co-President of the
San Bernardino Area League of Women Voters, and I am a founding member of the
ReTHINK Public Safety Coalition (RTPS). At the urging of RTPS, on June 23,
2020, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors unanimously declared
racism a public health crisis. I demand that the City of Council of San Bernardino
follow the county’s lead by declaring racism a public health crisis in the City of San
Bernardino.
In its resolution, which RTPS helped draft, the County Board of Supervisors created
an Equity Element which it added to the County Vision Plan as the Eleventh
Element. A commission will be established to review all county departments and
agencies through that equity lens and then identify the changes necessary to end
systemic racism in the county.
The City of San Bernardino must do the same. We must declare racism a public
health crisis in this city and then immediately take action to put a stake through the
heart of this unconscionable, deadly scourge. Our citizens deserve a city that serves
each of us fully and fairly. We will not be quiet and will not rest until we have
equity for all residents of this city.
