I am submitting public comment by email to urge the council to use CDBG Covid Virus and ESG COVID Virus related funds for rent relief for San Bernardino City residents impacted due to COVID 19. There is a coalition of residents and organizations that have seen what is needed in the community. This is a crucial time and city leadership needs to take action now. We ask at the San Bernardino City level to pass an ordinance that will do the following: ● Through new Community Development Block Grants COVID Virus and Emergency Solutions Grants COVID Virus related funds to create a San Bernardino City level rent relief program for landlords for residential tenants that have been financially impacted due to COVID 19 ● Rental assistance should be at least $1,295 for three months ● Eligibility criteria/documentation options: eviction notice, job status (unemployed, working less hours showing a paycheck, or increase cost (medical bills, child care since children were not in school during the date and etc.) ● Also give the rental assistance grant contract to a culturally competent provider that have helped underserved communities (doesn’t exclude undocumented, people with criminal record and other vulnerable communities) Right now we don't know if there will be additional aid coming any time soon. Some families don't know where their next meal will come from or if they will end up on the streets. The city council has the power to help hurting families during this difficult time. Rental assistance is a priority right now and community leaders can only do so much. Respectfully, Alexandra Beltran
