Kind regards, Susie PSHR Commission Secretary Susanna “Susie” Sandoval Executive Assistant to the Chief of Police San Bernardino Police Department 710 N. D Street San Bernardino, CA 92401 Office: (909) 384-5610 Fax: (909)388-4950 The Public Safety Commission (Police Sub-Committee) has received numerous indications of overwhelming support and appreciation expressed specifically to Chief Eric McBride for his leadership and the entire Police Department for both their valiant and visible efforts during the city’s recent Civil Unrest, as well as the July 4th weekend. With most of our Police officers on 12+ hour duty, the Chief made a tactical decision for our officers not to stop in any businesses for lunch or breaks considering their mere presence might bring a negative reaction on the business by the protestors, and for Officer Safety. Many of these businesses, on their own, then prepared, donated, delivered, and in some cases, served meals to the Police Staff at the station so that our Officers could at least have a lunch in a safe environment and refresh themselves. While there have been some disingenuous comments leveled at our Chief and the Department, we felt it necessary to inform you, the Chief, and our Officers of the countless expressions of gratitude from a largely grateful community. A number of the business representatives had organized their schedules and many corporate leaders were flying in to attend the Commission’s June and/or July Meetings to personally express their gratitude, but after meetings were continually canceled by the assistant City Manager, they gave up, and consented to being added to a list that would be presented to the Mayor and City Council in an open setting.
