Thank you for the opportunity to address the council and the Mayor this evening.
I am writing to address Item #14 on the agenda this evening.
My name is Jennifer Kane, Executive Director of Arts Connection.
Arts Connection is one of this year’s grantees for the Visual and Performing Arts Grants and we thank you so much
for the support!
Hundreds of artists and residents of the City have already benefited from the collaborative work we have been able
to doing with these funds. More than double what we anticipated.
However, as you know, in March 2020, public events and general public life came to a halt. As a result of COVID-
19 imposed closures and restrictions on public gatherings, we have not been able to keep some of our events as
planned and promised in our grant timeline. We have been able to adapt a number of our workshops to virtual
offerings, but art walks are not something we can do in person at the moment, nor for the foreseeable future.
We support the request for an extension for December 31, 2020 for us to be able to adapt to state guidelines for
public gatherings (if/when that happens) and continue to build the arts and culture infrastructure of the city as it also
supports the public health of the residents of our city.
Thank you for allowing this extension for the grantees at this time.
Jennifer Kane
Arts Connection,
Executive Director
