From: Margaret Hill Sent: Friday, May 29, 2020 9:02 PM To: A Fred Shorett Subject: Public Comment from Margaret Hill Councilman Shorett, Thank you for agreeing to read my public comment. It was too muffled last council meeting and even I didn't understand it. COMMENT: Greetings Mayor and Council, I come to you with a problem and a solution. About two weeks ago, while driving east on 9th Street between E Streets and Waterman Avenue, there were large amounts of trash on the south side of the street in nearly every block. I was embarrassed to see my city look this bad and I know there are other pockets that look just as bad. My solution is that you use funds to hire high school students, including our recent graduates to beautify our city. These were some of the jobs provided by SBETA (San Bernardino Employment Training Agency) to provide to students during summer vacation. This was very effective until the City found ways to get rid of the program. I do have a request that you consider employing residents of San Bernardino to fill some of your management positions. Not just anyone but those who are as qualified as those you have hired for the last two or more years. We have them here in San Bernardino, they just need to be given an opportunity. This way, we will have employees who take pride in this beautiful city instead of employees who know where the freeway ramps are only. Please consider my request. Thank you. Margaret Hill
