These challenging times are often times when leaders rise to the occasion or fall into oblivion. The choices you have made in the past do not way as heavy as the vote you put forth on Wednesday. Considering paying for John Valdivia's legal expenses associated with sexual harassment and hostile work environment, seems like mismanagement of City money. In 2013 the City Council In San Diego voted 9-0 to deny the Mayors request for taxpayers to pay for his legal fees associated with a sexual harassment case against him. San Diego says it shouldn't be part of the lawsuit because it had no role in the mayors behavior. One Council member stated "Mayor Filner can't pay back San Diegans for the damage he's done to our City's reputation, but he can and should repay the City if there are any taxpayers cost s as a result of this lawsuit." Which path will you take? I am fairly new to San Bernardino, I have not connected all the political alliance dots yet... I do however comprehend that our City is taking a very dangerous turn and setting up a precedence for our City's failure. What signal will you be sending small businesses that have temporarily closed and fighting to stay afloat? Will it be the only people that get help are friends or donors? What message are you sending businesses looking to open in San Bernardino after this crisis? Are we open for business for everyone of just a favored few? What message are you sending to homeowners who have invested in our City and are enduring these troubled times because they still have hope? What message are you sending to future homeowners who may look to our City to live because of the moderate housing prices? What message will you be sending your constituents? That you political alliances are more important than the people of San Bernardino? The choice you make will define if you rise to the occasion or fall into oblivion. You are setting your legacy. Please start by taking San Bernardino in a new direction, where there is fiscal accountability, working for and with your constituents. Things are changing fast, people are awaking from their slumber. You will be held accountable for your vote. What will your legacy be?
