RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO, CALIFORNIA,
AUTHORIZING THE RELOCATION OF ONE HISTORIC
CAMP CAJON PICNIC TABLE FROM LYTLE CREEK
PARK TO THE NEW CAMP CAJON MEMORIAL
MONUMENT SITE
WHEREAS, on July 4, 1919, Camp Cajon opened as a premier rest stop for motorists
making the ardent journey across the Mojave Desert in the Cajon Pass. Sponsors donated items
such as stoves, barbeque pits and tables and with their Fifty Dollar donation, a cast iron tablet
was incorporated onto the donated items; and
WHEREAS, after the great flood of 1938 and the subsequent realignment of U.S. Route
66, Camp Cajon was forever closed. Forty -Three of the concrete tables were salvaged and were
moved to the City of San Bernardino Lytle Creek Park and Perris Hill Park, where they remain to
this day; and
WHEREAS, The Camp Cajon Project Team rebuilt a replica of the original Camp Cajon
stone monument and dedicated it on July 4; 2019, a few hundred feet from the original location
of Camp Cajon; and
WHEREAS, The Camp Cajon Project Team surveyed and identified two of the forty-
three historic tables as candidates for one of the tables to be relocated at their expense to the site
of the new Camp Cajon Monument site; and
WHEREAS, On October 17, 2019, The Parks, Recreation and Community Services
Commission of the City of San Bernardino moved the recommendation to relocate one of the
original 1918 concrete tables with cast iron plaque from the Lytle Creek Park location to the new
Camp Cajon Monument site. The table is identified as the Residents of Cajon Pass table, due to
the inscription on the cast iron plaque.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SAN BERNARDINO AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The above recitals are true and correct and are incorporated herein by this
reference.
SECTION 2. That The Camp Cajon Project Team is allowed to relocate at their expense
the historic table identified at Lytle Creek Park to the new Camp Cajon Memorial Site, with the
oversight of the City of San Bernardino, Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department
and the Parks Division of the Public Works Department.
SECTION 3. The Parks, Recreation and Community Services repair the grass area of
Lytle Creek Park where the relocated table was using funding identified in their FY 19/20
General Fund operating budget.

SECTION 4. That the City Council finds this Resolution is not subject to the California
Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) in that the activity is covered by the general rule that CEQA
applies only to projects which have the potential for causing a significant effect on the
environment. Where it can be seen with certainty, as in this case, that there is no possibility that
the activity in question may have a significant effect on the environment, the activity is not
subject to CEQA.
SECTION 5. Severability. If any provision of this Resolution or the application thereof
to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or
applications, and to this end the provisions of this Resolution are declared to be severable.
SECTION 6. Effective Date. This Resolution shall becompeffective immediately.
