Project Description /Need Statement According to the Dove Self Esteem campaign, research has shown that 7 in 10 girls believe they are not good enough or do not measure up in some way, including their looks, performance in school and relationships with family and friends ". We live in a world where youth are forced to measure their worth based on the standards that society has set and our goal is to use our skills as an educator and motivational speaker to provide structure, inspiration, and hope. SWAG (Succeeding with Audacious Goals) is designed to teach young women how to be Young Bosses. Our target group will be young women between the ages of 12 -18. We will be partnering with Indian Springs High School to encourage and empower the young women to create and live out a positive vision for their lives. SWAG will be a creative arts project where young women will have the opportunity to: make vision boards that will help increase their confidence in themselves, discuss topics geared towards self- esteem, goal setting, classroom success, life, finances, values, and career plans. We will help them to build a strong creative self- image, think and plan for the future, and empower them to be the best they can be to impact change in their school, community, and world. At the end of the 10 weeks each young lady will present their canvas vision board that they created at a banquet for their friends, family, and the community at large. 8 VI. Provide a brief history /background of your organization /school project (s). (What you have done before in this category of the arts. The SWAG Project was originated from Chasta Jefforson's mentoring group within Indian Springs. The idea then expanded with Whitley Porter when they discovered that in order to see the results they are looking for within young women they need to give them goal setting tools to accomplish their dream along with spiritual, emotional, and physical health mentoring and guidance. The Project Officer's for SWAG are Chasta Jefferson, an experienced teacher within the San Bernardino Unified School District, and Whitley Porter who is currently a Program Representative at Azusa Pacific University. Both of these women are extremely involved in the community and have a heart for serving underprivileged women in the city of San Bernardino. They have partnered with local churches, youth organizations, and women's shelters to assist with conferences and events that resource young women and adults in the area of self esteem, character development, hygiene and spiritual and emotional health. They have been actively involved in a women's conference for the past two years that helps to build the self esteem of women through helping them to deal with any insecurities or limiting factors that may keep them from pressing forward in what they are called to do. Whitley Porter is a motivational speaker and has been invited to multiple young women events to help them with their vision boards and goal setting. Chasta Jefferson has had mentoring groups for the last 5 years with students that focus primarily on self- esteem and helping first generation students to gain the confidence they need to graduate from school and go into higher education.
