BACKGROUND: Each year an allocation is made in the 126 Gas Tax fund and in the 129 1/2-Cent Sales and Road Tax Fund for the rehabilitation of various streets within the community. In a joint effort, the Departments of Public Works and Public Services review and recommend streets for rehabilitation. Factors considered are traffic volumes, condition of street, method to be used, service life of pavement, improvements to be realized with the rehabilitation method and available funding. The location selected for the sixth phase of this project is a residential area located on the west side of the community. The departments of Public Services and Development Services have reviewed these streets and determined that significant useful life remains for this pavement, provided restoration and rehabilitation is completed in the near future. These streets have been rated average under the City rating system and will benefit from this process, and comply with the recently adopted policy on slurry seal. The project will consist of grinding those cracks in the street which cause a bump or a rough ride, sealing the cracks with an appropriate sealer, cleaning the street and then applying a slurry seal that is a pavement restorative and weather seal. The estimated costs based on the Engineer's Estimate of Construction Costs are listed below: Construction Contract $474,850 Engineering/Inspection $ 8.000 Subtotal $482,850 Contingencies (13.9%) $ 67.15 0 TOTAL $550,000 FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funding for the cost of this project is in Account No. 129-367-5504-7101 (rehabilitation of pavement at various locations) in an amount of$691,500, in addition to carryover funds from previous years allocations. Additional areas have been identified and will be brought forward after award in order to utilize remaining funds and carryovers from previous years. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends approval of the plan and authorization for the Director of Development Services to begin advertising for bids on the above named project. ATl A r.
