Synopsis of Previous Council Action:
July 1998 Adoption of budget approving allocation $50,000 in Gas Tax funds and $50,000 in 1/2-Cent
Sales Tax funds for Disabled Access Ramps city-wide.
Recommended Motion:
That the plans be approved for construction of handicapped ramps at various locations in accordance with Plan
No. 9863 and the Director of Development Services be authorized to advertise for bids.

STAFF REPORT
SUBJECT:
Approval of Plans and authorization to advertise for bids--installation of handicapped ramps in
various locations per Plan No. 9863.
BACKGROUND:
Installation of handicapped ramps along streets has been programmed for the last several years.
The proposed ramps follow the adopted policy for installation in that they cover public facilities,
schools, retail areas and places of public accommodation in a set order. The 1998/99 budget
provided for $50,000 for construction from the Gas Tax fund, and an additional $50,000 from
the 1/2-Cent Sales Tax fund, in addition to any CDBG funding that may be available. There
are approximately 63 locations included in the portion of the project. Other areas will be
identified as additional funding is received, and if bids should come in under the estimate.
Plans are now complete and we are ready to advertise for bids to complete this final portion of
the project. Listed below are the estimated construction costs based on the Engineer's Estimate
of Construction:
Construction Contract $ 82,550
Engineering and Inspection 6.3
Subtotal $ 88,750
Contingencies (12.6%) 11.25
TOTAL ESTIMATED CONSTRUCTION $100,000
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
Funding for the installation of handicapped ramps at various locations is found in the Gas Tax
Fund account no. 126-369-5504-7118 in the amount of$50,000, and in the 1/2-Cent Sales Tax
Fund account no. 129-367-5504-7122 in the amount of $50,000 (total amount of funding is
$100,000).
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends approval of the plans and authorization for the Director of Development
Services to begin advertising for bids on the above named project.
