MINUTES FOR TUESDAY, MARCH 8, 2016

Meeting called to order by Chairperson Garcia on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 4:05 p.m. in the
MIC Conference Room, 6th Floor of City Hall.
COMMISSIONER/STAFF ANNOUNCEMENTS
Chairperson Garcia asked that commissioners look at their calendars for availability to volunteer
at the upcoming Art Night event on May 19, 2016.
Commissioner Segura read a FAC facebook request from Sandra Ibarra of the San Bernardino
High School Neighborhood Association requesting support from the Fine Arts Commission in
conduct a citywide competition for the creation of a logo for the San Bernardino High School
Neighborhood Association and asked that it be opened to students within the City.
A motion was made by Commissioner Segura to place Sandra Ibarra's request on the next Fine
Arts Commission agenda for April 12, 2016. The motion was seconded by Commissioner
Taylor. The motion passed.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion was made by Commissioner Bunger to approve the Minutes of February 8, 2016. The
motion was seconded by Commissioner Segura. The Motion passed.

GUEST SPEAKERS
Manal Iskander, Greenshack Market Place, gave a presentation on the opening of their new
business, Musicology. She stated that the studio showcased local talent with a video production.
She indicated that they completed a full television production and that they produced music and
video streamed two shows per month. She stated that their website address was
www.musicologyie.com.

Arts Calendar for February 2016
Grants
Chairperson Garcia stated that on Saturday, March 5, 2016, the decision was made by consensus
vote to disqualify Inland Dance Company due to insufficient information.
1. I.M., Inc.
A motion was made by Commissioner Taylor to approve funding for the full amount requested
of $7,500.00 contingent on proof of adequate administration. The motion was seconded by
Commissioner Howard. The motion passed 7 -1. Commissioner Bunger abstained.
2. Junior University
A motion was made by Commission Segura to approve funding for the full amount requested of
$11,500.00. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Taylor. The motion passed.
3. San Bernardino Symphony
A motion was made by Commission Bunger to approve funding for the full amount requested of
$46,000.00. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Segura. The motion passed.
4. Symphonic Jeunesse
A motion was made by Commission Bunger to approve funding for the full amount requested of
$10,000.00. The motion was seconded by Chairperson Garcia. The motion passed.
5. Teen Music Workshop
A motion was made by Commission Taylor to approve funding for the full amount requested of
$22,000.00. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Babcock. The motion passed.

6. San Bernardino Valley Concert Association
A motion was made by Commission Taylor to approve funding for the full amount requested of
$23,175.00. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Bunger. The motion passed.
7. Untapped Hip Hop
A motion was made by Commission Segura to approve funding in the amount of $6,000.00. The
motion was seconded by Commissioner Taylor. The motion passed.
8. Arts Connection
A motion was made by Commission Babcock to approve funding for the full amount requested
of $8,100.00. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Taylor. The motion passed.
9. Kimbark Elementary School
A motion was made by Commission Howard to approve funding in the amount of $12,000.00.
The motion was seconded by Commissioner Taylor. The motion passed.
10. California State University San Bernardino Opera Theatre
A motion was made by Commission Segura to approve funding for the full amount requested of
$11,132.00. The motion was seconded by Chairperson Garcia. The motion passed.
11. Norton Space and Aeronautics Academy — Visual Art
A motion was made by Commission Segura to approve funding for the full amount requested of
$3,098.00. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Howard. The motion passed.
12. Norton Space and Aeronautics Academy — Music and Dance
A motion was made by Commission Bunger to approve funding for the full amount requested of
$3,737.00. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Howard. The motion passed.
13. Sinfonia Mexicana Mariachi Academy
A motion was made by Commission Segura to approve funding for the full amount requested of
$24,000.00. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Ohiy. The motion passed.

14. LJR Academy
A motion was made by Commission Bunger to approve funding for the full amount requested of
$10,000.00. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Babcock. The motion passed.
15. United Nations of Consciousness
A motion was made by Commissioner Taylor not to fund due to concerns with charging students
while receiving grant monies. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Howard. The motion
passed.

ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 5:54 p.m. on March 8, 2016. The next regular Fine Arts Commission
meeting will be on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 4:00 p.m., in the MIC Conference Room, 6th Floor
of San Bernardino City Hall.
