CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
REQUEST FOR FUNDING
FOR 4TH OF JULY CELE-
BRATION AT SECCOMBE
LAKE PARK.
Background
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department has successively conducted the 4th
of July Celebration since 1990. The department is planning its 1999 4th of July community
celebration at Seccombe Lake Park. The event will be free to the public and will be conducted
from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m. Activities will consist of group and family picnicking, old fashioned
games, food and beverage booths, entertainment and fireworks show. This event is expected to
attract several thousand visitors and promises to be an exciting community experience. The Ways
and Means Committee recommended funding of$32,251 to come from the 1998-99 FY Civic and
Promotional Funds.
The 4th of July Celebration is perhaps the only community celebration that is funded by the city
that appeals to the entire community. This event attracts thousands each year. The 1999 event
will mark the tenth year it has been held.
Financial Impact
The celebration is fully funded out of the Civic and Promotions Fund. Departmental labor and
overtime costs are also included in the funding, consequently there are no other support costs to
the city.
Recommendation
That funding in the amount of$32,251 from the Civic and Promotions Fund for the 1999 4th of
July Celebration be approved.
