Justification/Reason for Request
Ms. Reyes began her employment with the City Attorney's Office on September 2013 through
a SBETA grant. In February, 2015, Ms. Reyes was hired by the City Attorney's Office as an
Office Assistant (U). Since March 28, 2016, Ms. Reyes has been working through a Higher-
Acting assignment as a Legal Secretary I (U). Resolution No. 2007-345 requires that the R
entire period of the acting duty assignment at the higher classification may not exceed 60
working days, except by mutual agreement of the Mayor and common Council and the
employee. Ms. Reyes' 60-day term is July 5, 2016, E
While working in the higher-acting assignment, Ms. Reyes has shown tremendous growth a
and initiative in performing the duties of that respective position. In fact, through her entire
employment with the City Attorney's Office, she has shown a high degree of professionalism
and dedication to her work. Due to these factors, and her continued interest in growing
professionally, it was decided to promote her into this position instead of extending the term
of her higher-acting assignment.

The Executive Assistant to the Director position was left vacant on May 20,2016;the
previous Executive Assistant to the Director resigned.

The Executive Assistant to the Director is a critical position,in that this position provides .
direct clerical support to the Director. This position is significant to Director and includes q
duties such as coordinating the Director's calendar,correspondence personnel matters,
MCC agenda items in MinuteTraq,and other matters. With the resignation of the former
Executive Assistant to the Director,the Senior Management Analyst has not been tasked
to support the Director in addition to maintaining her existing duties.
Keeping this position vacant will result in the existing staff filing in as the Executive
Assistant to the Director in addition to day to day duties. This is not an efficient use of
current staff nor is it productive for the Director of Department.
