Councziwoman, Third Ward
(909)384 -5333
Honorable Judith Valles
City of San Bernardino
300 North "D" Street
San Bernardino, CA 92418
Dear Mayor Valles:
It is with deep regret that I submit this letter of resignation as a member of the City Council
representing the Third Ward of the City of San Bernardino. Over the past few weeks I have given this
a great deal of thought and consideration and now feel that my resignation is the best alternative.*
When I ran for office I was a resident of the Third Ward. However, personal circumstances
became such that I had to move from my residence in the Third Ward and I moved in with my son while
making arrangements to relocate back to the Third Ward. It was also my intent that my move in with
my son would be on a temporary basis.
Although I have always considered my permanent residence to be in the Third Ward, I have
encountered personal difficulties with my housing arrangements which have prolonged my temporary
stay outside of my ward.
According to the City Charter, when a council member no longer resides in his /her ward, the
member must resign. Under the circumstances, I feel that it is only fair and right that I tender my
resignation to you.
I have appreciated the opportunity to serve the citizens of the Third Ward and to work with the
Mayor and Council, as well as the City staff, especially the outstanding City Council staff.
I see the City quickly moving in a very positive and exciting direction under the new leadership
of Judy Valles. I consider it my personal gain to have had the opportunity to interface with so many
good people in our City.
Thank you all and may God be with you all.
*Please consider my resignation
effective as of October 19, 1998.
Res y,
Rita C. Arias
