CITY OF SAN BERNA DINO - REQUEST FC : COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
F-94-12
The proposed purchase is for nine (9) police patrol motorcycles to
be utilized in daily operations by the Police Department.
At the request of the department, appropriate specifications were
prepared, published and furnished to area suppliers. Bids were
publicly opened and declared on January 6, 1994. The following is
a summary of bids received.
COMPANY TOTAL BID (INCLUDING TAX)
Poway Honda Kawasaki $68,461. 07
San Bernardino Sportcenter 70, 171. 11
Beaumont Yamaha Kawasaki 67,203 . 68
*Pomona Valley Kawasaki 65, 894 .51
Kawasaki of Riverside 64, 585. 35
Langston's Kawasaki Inc 65, 962 .44
Thirteen (13) suppliers of this commodity were solicited. Six
vendors responded. There were five valid bids and one invalid bid.
The current fleet of twelve (12) motorcycles range from 1985 to
1990. Nine (9) motorcycles are in desperate need of replacement
with severely worn suspensions, motors and transmissions. The
vehicles have 85, 000 or more miles on each vehicle.
The lowest bidder, Kawasaki of Riverside, did not submit a bid
bond. The bond is a material requirement of the bid package.
Therefore, the bid of Pomona Valley Kawasaki for $65,894.51 is
considered as meeting the bid requirement.
Specifications as bid have been reviewed with the Fleet Manager who
concurs that the bid of Pomona Valley Kawasaki meets specifications
and requirements. It is therefore recommended that the bid be
accepted for contract. The equipment funding is in the 93/94
budget.
