Description) Materials & Supplies Finance: Council Notes: Res 96- H/1616 Agenda Item No. /a CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION STAFF REPORT Our vehicle fleet purchases annually nearly 1700 "NEW" tires and tubes. An invitation to bid to provide annual "NEW" tire service was sent to eleven (11) vendors in August 1996. Responses to the bid was received from four vendors. The vendors were required to submit a bid to support a purchase of 16 various tube and tire sizes. VENDOR LOCATION BID PRICE Parkhouse Tire Colton, CA $ 150,842 .98 Y Tire Los Angeles, CA $ 153,856.49 Daniels Tire Riverside, CA $ 155,846.57 Dapper Tire Rancho Cucamonga, CA $ 163, 915.94 Although Parkhouse Tire is the low bidder, to insure tire availability it is our recommendation that this bid be split between Parkhouse Tire (General Tire Dealer) and Y Tire (Goodyear Tire Dealer) . Not only does this insure tire availability but it also enables us to take advantage of lower tire costs for specific tires sizes that one vendor may have over the other. It is recommended that the Mayor and Common Council authorize the purchasing agent to issue the following two purchase orders for a total of $150,842 .98 for the purchase of "NEW" tires and tubes: Parkhouse Tire - $100,842 .98 Y Tire - $ 50, 000. 00 ames R.
