CITY_ OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
The proposal to change the name of Pine Avenue between Irvington Avenue and
Kendall Drive was City initiated as a result of the realignment and
construction of "new" Pine Avenue. The name change is necessary to avoid the
confusion for emergency services and for the residents and visitors of the City
and to provide continuity in the street names in the area.
The realignment work and construction of "new" Pine Avenue is complete and is
now open for public use. Residents and property owners of properties lying
easterly of "new" Pine Avenue may continue to access their properties off of the
portion of Pine Avenue that is proposed to be renamed as "Bailey Court".
To avoid confusion between the two streets and in the interest of the public
convenience and safety for the residents and visitors of the City, the portion
of Pine Avenue lying between Kendall Drive and Irvington Avenue is being renamed.
The proposed name change will not require any address changes, as there are no
addresses assigned to Pine Avenue along this portion of the street.
Based on the identification and close proximity of the area to both "Bailey
Creek" and. nearby "Bailey Canyon" , staff recommends renaming this portion of
Pine Avenue to "BAILEY COURT".
All of the affected City departments and outside agencies have been notified of
the proposed name change, and all have been given an opportunity to comment
and/or make recommendations relative to the proposed street name change.
None of the responses received indicate opposition to the proposed name change,
although the Fire Department/Fire Suppression Station No. 5 staff recommended
the name be changed to "Old Pine Avenue" , however, staff does not support this
recommendation for the reasons stated above.
Staff recommends that the request to change the name of Pine Avenue between
Kendall Drive and Irvington Avenue to Bailey Court be approved, and that the
Resolution Ordering the Name Change be approved.
