in the amount of $5, 000 and indirect funding for departmental costs in
the amount of $13, 600. 97 be authorized to assist the San Bernardino
Western Little League in their 1996 Playoff games .

CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
Western Region Little League Baseball is requesting financial assistance from the City in the
amount of $5,000 to support their State Play Offs scheduled for August 8 through August 16,
1996. The staff report recommends approval to the Mayor and Common Council pursuant to
clarification of the indirect departmental costs to the City for the event. These costs are as
follows:

Honorable Mayor Minor:
The Little League Western Regional Tournament is once again
around the corner, at the Al Houghton Stadium here in San
Bernardino. Tournament this year starts on Thursday, August
8 , and ends on Friday, August 16 , 1996 .
We have greatly appreciated the financial support from the
City Council in the past, helping to defray the cost of the
tournament activities for which I am again respectfully
requesting a $5, 000 grant for 1996 .
Team Transportation (to and from the airport-various arrival
times) . Get acquainted Picnic, (Wednesday evening, August
7, 1996 , feeding approximately 600 guests) , opening
ceremonies, meals for teams and volunteers for the nine day
event .
Mayor Minor, I believe that from the many accolades
received from visitors to the Regional Tournament this event
is one of the top sporting events in the Inland Empire, and
we are again anticipating a crowd of 50 to 60 thousand
spectators from throughout the 13 Western States .
We take this opportunity to thank you for the outstanding
support we have received in the past and that you will look
favorably on this request . Also, we hope that you and
Virginia will honor us with your presence at some of the
activities on the enclosed schedule of events .
