CITY OF SAN BERNARDINO - REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
STAFF REPORT
Funds were included in the 1996/97 Budget for the
improvement of Coulston Street, from Richardson Street to Curtis
Street. This improvement will improve traffic capacity, provide
pedestrian walkways, and control storm drainage.
A storm drain has been installed in Richardson Street,
from Mission Creek Channel to Davidson Street. This storm drain
was designed to be extended to Coulston Street. Extension of
this drain would complete the drainage system and allow full
utilization of the storm drain facilities. Also, storm waters in
Coulston Street could be conveyed by this extension to Mission
Creek, and thereby relieve the area west of Coulston Street.
The preliminary estimated cost of this storm drain
extension in Richardson Street is $75 , 000 .
An amount of $90 , 000 was allocated in the 1995/96 Storm
Drain Construction Fund Budget, under Account No. 248-368-5504-
7023 , to finance the cost of installing a 27-inch storm drain in
Palm Avenue, from Washington Avenue to Irvington Avenue. Work
has not been commenced on this project, since Palm Avenue has
recently been resurfaced, and we are reluctant to cut this new
pavement.
We recomend that $75 , 000 of the $90 , 000 allocated for the
storm drain in Palm Avenue, be transferred to finance the cost
for completing the storm drain system in Richardson Street. Our
recommended 1997/98 Storm Drain Construction Fund Budget will
include an amount of $75 , 000 to replace these funds .
